I've only been to one, Anime Boston, but it was a lot of fun! The scary-smelly otaku quotient was low, the panels were great, the dealer's room made me happy inside and some people had awesome costumes.
(Some people not being me. My buds insisted I cosplay, so... I bought some shorts and a tank top, and an Ein plush at the con, and went as Ed from Cowboy Bebop. >.>; XD)
So, yeah. Not all cons are scary. I hope Youmacon isn't :3
