the house of mystery! which you may know from sandman and old dc cheesy horror stuff! basically, it's a group of people from different universes that are trapped in this mansion. they turn it into a bar and early on, there isn't a very heavy plot other than the main characters can't come and go at will (which is why they turn it into a bar) and others pay for drinks via story. every issue has a story-within-a-story, usually by artists that don't usually do full comics and are cover artists (pretty much everyone under the sun from allred to cooke to the cover artist, esao andrews has done them). i think around issue #12 or so sturges introduces a heavier plot.

it ties into sandman, mostly with cain & abel, but no prior knowledge is required.

but again, hrnrngh the art. I REALLY LOVE LUCA ROSSI'S ART and I know people will bitch about simplistic backgrounds/gradients, but I love how he draws (see: icon).

the main character's name is fig and she was once a ~teen detective!!~ she's really adorable and uses old sayings/curse words like JEEZLY CROW and HOLY CATS and my favorite is JIMINY CRISPIX (sorry I stole that username heh).

hmm

idk if the premise interests me all that much (it sounds like hotel california with spooky things) but your icon IS pretty so it might be nice to flip through just to look at

it does mostly take place within the house, but it expands through the stories of the characters' pasts and i'd say about halfway? through the series some leave and it becomes just this gorgeous ...thing. that i want to say more about, but i really don't want to spoil key points that i won't say i wasn't expecting? he did a good job foreshadowing just enough, i think.

here is most of the series. i think if you don't like it by like, issue #5 or so you may never like it? idk. i was really into it and if it hadn't just ended, it would be one of the only ongoings that i would still be reading religiously. (also if you choose to mostly download, the last few issues i think were never scanned? so they aren't in there)

there are a lot of doubles in there i think idk. i kept forgetting what i had uploaded before deleting them off my hd and like, the tpbs are so low quality print. i don't know what's up with the colors but they're very dark/dull and it loses a lot of details in comparison to how it was printed for single issues. :(
