*does this for ocs
Jul. 20th, 2009 02:25 pmCommissions are moving along well, and I feel like all but two should be done before Saturday even thinks of hitting. Storyboards take longer though. Mmmyep.
Let's do this while I take a break from pencil-pushing.
Pick some OCs and I'll say...
→ why I decided to write/draw this character
→ my favorite scene or bit of interaction concerning this character to date
→ my favorite aspect about this character
→ the last thing they did "off screen"
→ what their last words would be if they died tomorrow
→ what the next thing I'm doing for them is (narrative, post, shelving, whatever)
I picked some, but you can pick some too from this hideously long character list from memes past if you so feel inclined but by no means must feel pressured into doing so.
Hubert Godfrey ☆
WHY: He is actually based off of my dad in ways. Rather, he's based off how I view/feel about him. So he's a goofball, but he's also not ashamed to work hard for his loved ones, even if the job's less than stellar. Also I needed a knight for a project that fell through, and woop, he's been put into another one where he seems more comfortable.
SCENE: My favorite scene of his is the one I have choreographed best for him. It's a fight with a giant that lands him the right to his signature Silvris Lance, and it is all kinds of ridiculous and epic. I like letting him show off his unnatural brute strength (which is why I usually draw him wrestling monsters or some shiz).
ASPECT: His humility is one of his crowning features; the guy's got the highest title a man in his line of work could get (well, short of suddenly getting crowned or something), but you'd never know it talking to him. I don't think there's an obnoxious bone in his body--which might be obnoxious in of itself to some people.
OFF-SCREEN: No doubt drinking off-duty. He's not a big hobbyist.
DEAD TOMORROW: Oh my God uh. Whatever he'd say it'd be said with a smile and that just kills me.
NEXT THING: Gotta get off my keister and write a bit about him. :|
Chemin Faor ☆
WHY: Can you believe he started off as a generic main character with pretty much no personality. Lol thirteen years old. I guess it's almost a requirement for people making up worlds to have the token elf somewhere, and he was it. He was a walking cliché, and still has of that hanging around, but only because I like those bits.
SCENE: There's a point where he returns home and gets smacked in the face with a fist full of nostalgia, recalling pieces of his childhood before to got smashed to bits by the bad guys. It's the point where he finally acknowledges it's time to grow the fuck up and start living up to his namesake.
ASPECT: He's become this just...absolute failure. Nothing he does turns out the way it's supposed to. I never had a character who was so incredibly inept at the things he sets out to do, and I like seeing how he reacts and copes with all those disappointments stacked on his shoulders. As far as protagonists go, he does more development on the inside rather than the outside, and in the environment he's in, that doesn't really amount to much.
OFF-SCREEN: He is forever on water-gathering duty when it's time to set up camp, because he's remarkably not clumsy at it.
DEAD TOMORROW: Probably some pathetic, unintelligable howl, if he vocalizes at all. :(
NEXT THING: Still hashing out the mid-to-endpoints of his journey. Surprisingly he lives through it all, which is an accomplishment for one of my favorites...,
Iore Misrool ☆
WHY: He was originally concieved to be an obnoxious brat-child that you kind of feel bad for because his life sucks, but now he's an obnoxious brat-man-in-a-child's-body that you really feel bad for because his life is hideous.
SCENE: Any scene he has with Chemin is a joy to draw/write. He gives him a lot of shit for being such a lanky, bug-eyed, tight-lipped waste of air, which is Iore-talkdown for "well at least you're not as useless as a rock". Theirs is a beautiful friendship, and one of the worst to see get broken up.
ASPECT: I like the fact that he shifts from being a selfish asshole who feels the world owes him everything to the guy who's got your back no matter how bad you screw up. Not that he'd martyr himself for you or anything (unless you're Niko), just...he wouldn't get on your case for fucking up again unless you needed to hear it.
OFF-SCREEN: He's a blister-picker, and that's what he does when there's time to sit down and relax. It's gross.
DEAD TOMORROW: Probably a generic NOOOoooo. He's not that original in the face of death lmao.
NEXT THING: Same as Chemin. Maybe design him some new clothes to travel in when the weather gets colder, because the equatorial-refugee look won't cut it in snow.
Martin Darkov ☆
WHY: He suddenly popped into mind while playing around with Nightcap's backstory. He was initially going to be the original romantic interest, but it shifted to little brother because I think it's more interesting that way. Knocked him down a few years, too, because he can be derpier at 14 easier than 18.
SCENE: I'm mean to him but I really like the bit where he tries to copycat his sister and do a summon that...ends up going hideously awry and causes the entire mess that's the premise of the story.
ASPECT: He is equal parts terrified and resolved to do the things he's gotta do to save his sister, and I think that's the most entertaining aspect of him. He'll do what he's gotta do, but he's prrrobably gonna scream the whole way.
OFF-SCREEN: Boy loves to fish. Like. A lot. It's his activity of zen.
DEAD TOMORROW: Uuh something like "NOT YET" if he's not done yet or "oh" if he is lmao.
NEXT THING: There's a whole 'nother arc I got in mind after he DOES save his sister and it has many ghostly adventures.
Uuu I hope my order for Baccano! v3 and Teen Titans s5 comes in this week.
