noelleno...and I guess by ~*save the world*~, I clearly meant "level crunch and end up on disc four even though I completely forgot there even was a disc cour because WHY WOULD AN XBOX 360 GAME NEED MULTIPLE DISCS".
But no I am enjoying Lost Odyssey very much, which says a lot since turn-based RPGs are generally boring and annoying to me. This one at least puts more effort into their beasties (i.e., not every monster has a palette swap counterpart in a different dungeon), and there are consequences for getting hit multiple times when casting magic and I think that's pretty reasonable EXCEPT WHEN I'M HOUNDED BY PACKS OF THOSE LIZARD BITCHES AND ALL I GOTTA DO IS SET THEM ON FIRE but hey.
Good things about LO:
• Character development that I actually give a shit about (i.e. main character's genuine change in demeanor/outlook)
• Voice acting, which has successfully displayed Tolten for the pansy little bitch that he is and made me love him dearly for it.
• The near-comical weapon limitations (your party only uses staves and swords until like the later half of disc three, and then you get a gun but only one.)
• Jansen keeps talking even when there's no subtitle to fill. He's supposed to be really fucking annoying but I just adore him.
• THE MAP SYSTEM IS REALLY HANDY AND I LIKE IT
• I can agree to an annoying sidequest by accident and not have to worry about it because ten minutes later THE ENTIRE TOWN IS ICED OVER AND DESTROYED or I GET PERMABANNED FROM THE KINGDOM that is so convenient to me.
• I can survive bosses with everybody alive at the end to enjoy their delicious exp
• Tolten has a skill called "Lullaby". I haven't used it yet, but the image of him singing cracks me the hell up.
• Skill links are cool--in the event that "Lullaby" is lolarious, I will attatch it to my main character and have my hardass sideburny swordsman sing enemies to sleep.
• The annoying children have actually developed into useful battle assets and I may actually like them if they'd SHUT UP ABOUT THEIR MOM FOR FIVE MINUTES
• I have a 60-year old man in my party and he is awesome.
• Treasure Glasses accessory shows up on the characters if I equip them, and it makes everybody look very booksmart. Or stupid.
• Tolten has the worst/best battle closing lines ("Little by little, step by step...!" SERIOUSLY DUDE?)
• Gongora's eyebrows.
• Gongora's facial hair in general.
• Gongora's evil laugh.
• Gongora's name.
• Ghotzan soldiers wear these giant, three-foot tall iron helmets that cannot possibly be useful for anything except looking hilarious whenever I see them. Uhran soldiers are even worse, if only because theirs have decorative loopies on the top for no reason.
• A female character in my party that does not weild a staff, and is actually faster and better at critically damaging people than my main. And her name is Seth. She is a badass.
• I can't believe I give a shit about these characters. I don't even care about rpg characters in rpgs I actually enjoy.
• Sentient lemurs.
• NPCs are not just NPCs. They make sure you know their status. "Happy Child Rosalie", "Drunk Traveler Orson", "Scared Woman Eveline" and conversely, when you save the day, "Joyful Woman Eveline". Lmao.
Bad things about LO:
• Loading screens. Everywhere at every single turn. Walk into a house? Loading screen. Walk into a cave? Loading screen. Walk past a couple with a dog? LOADING SCREEN I CAN'T EVEN...This game is four discs there is no excuse for these shenanigans.
• THE TEXT IS SO TINY EVEN ON MY BIG FLATSCREEN I AM SQUINTING TO READ ALL THIS SHIT.
• Kaim's battle opening/closing lines ("WHAT?!??" and "Like taking candy from a baby" REALLY KAIM REALLY.)
• Jansen's outfit is just terrible. Except for his fruity little slippers.
• Ming's boobs.
• Ming's outfit which house her boobs and her ass and seems to work hard at making no sense whatsoever as far as clothes go.
• Actually, nobody's outfit really makes sense. I mean, Seth looks awesome, but it's not practical for her to have so much exposed/cloth covered area when fighting. The kids are wearing matching disco collars and Cooke has a bellytop for whatever reason. Kaim's armor is fine except the back is exposed why?? And Sarah was okay except for the boob window but then I remember what gender is developing this game. Tolten is the only decent one because he is a sparkly, sparkly princess.
• The damn dreams. It was novel at first, but I am not going to sit for ten-fifteen minutes reading hard-to-read text prose about Kaim's past adventures with old ladies or dying kids.
• 80% of Spirit magic is useless unless you're in a slow-moving boss battle. 80% of Composite magic is pointless if you can just blow up each enemy one by one with the same spell at a higher hit count. And it takes forever. But it's really really shiny.
• Damn hivemind pack monsters ganging up on my spellcasters CONSTANTLY even when they're in the back where there's a defense wall. Fff.
• Needs more Tolten. I will never swap him out of my party again.
Kay no look. Kaim why not wear a shirt underneath I bet it'll be more comfortable. And that purple terror in the back is Ming and that's not even the worst part of her outfit. Seth is yellow and fabulous.
Do you see that sparkly golden pansy do you see him. That is Tolten. His voice squeaks. The model doesn't do him justice, because his armor seriously sparkles every time you see him, cutscene or no.
Note the awkward children clothing that seems more cumbersome than useful. And an old man with flame-tip pants.
And there are Jansen's fabulous slippers and hideous pimp coat.
And Gongora.
Any closer and his eyebrows will eat your face off.
Ming. Explain this outfit. Make it make sense and I'll give you a prize.

I'm very much sick of that being the appearance of every JRPG. Though they kind of look like reject Dynasty Warrior characters.
If I didn't have many badass games to catch up I may have to consider putting it on my list. But I'm making sure I'm playing all games that have an average rating of a 9/10 about... or cost like $10 and are for my ps2. But eh. I'm getting Arkham Asylum for my birthday ♥ So uh the Batmans will be my existence.
