Four corners; movie clips for you
Dec. 17th, 2006 02:21 pmMoved the big shit out of my dorm today. Quilla, naturally, did not clean her food out of the fridge. THERE WAS GREEN SHIT GROWING OUT OF THE TUPPERWARE, OH GOD. I just pitched it all. Blugh. I ASKED her a week ago, and nagged for days, for her to work on getting that shit out. And unplug the fridge. Clearly this is too much of a task. Sigh. Oh well. It's fine now, and put into or storage closet.
I am...So happy. That Tuesday ends the semester for me. I already went to Blackboard and found out I got a B+ on my oral exam (I have no idea how), so that means I have a lot of room to fall back on the German test. Psych doesn't concern me. And math? Hahaha..well. Since the class isn't graded on letters, and just pass/fail? I just gotta do what I can. I think I can do it.
Geez, already the third week of Advent. Time is totally blasting by. Still got about 12 more cards to fill out. The packages will be late, because the campus post office is, how you say, queer. And would not ship out of country boxes.
Went on a music download bender last night and snagged some songs I heard on IMF, which kind of rules my life. I am glad 30 Seconds to Mars doesn't suck, as far as whiny contemporock goes. I don't want to kill them, at least. Got some of The Sounds, found I wasn't as thrilled with them as I thought. And some Automatics, which is...Franz Ferdinand-ish, but in a good way. And...Still. Can't. Find. Thoroughblend. Afsdfsklfjisdkmlfjasdklm
1. The last movie you saw in a theatre, and current-release movie you still want to see.
Superman, in 3D at the iMax theatre. I found it quite spiffing, even though apparently everyone else in the geekdom hates that movie. Coulda done without the..kid.
And I would like to see Happy Feet. Ha ha shut up. ): I watched a making of. The environment renderings are drooltastic.
2. The last movie you rented/purchased for home viewing.
Urrrh, I think...It was Cars. Because I have a 30% discount. It was alright. LONG AS HELL.
3. Funniest movie moment.
This question isn't fair. It should just be "funny movie moments that come to mind." Cause I'll think about something else later.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation: Clark's bitchrant about his boss after getting his Jelly of the Month Club subscription.
"Hey. If any of you are looking for any last-minute gift ideas for me, I have one. I'd like Frank Shirley, my boss, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on Melody Lane with all the other rich people and I want him brought right here, with a big ribbon on his head, and I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit he is. Hallelujah! Holy SHIT. Where's the Tylenol?"
Space Mutiny: Everything. The entire movie is so bad that you will die forever.
Mallrats: "You better go have your friend checked out; he seems to have a strange fixation with superhero genetalia."
And the sailboat thing.
Curse of the Jade Scorpion: Every single time Briggs and that woman fight. The writing is great.
4. Saddest movie moment.
Awakenings: When Leonard's medication begins to stop working, and he starts going catatonic. FUCK. But Dad started crying before me, so I win.
Rainman: The hot shower scene, when Raymond started screaming, "YOU'LL HURT THE BABY." God.
5. A movie that was a darling of the critics, but you didn't think lived up to the hype.
Corpse Bride.
It fucking sucks. Even the scene design couldn't save it. It was so BORING.
6. A movie that you thought was better than the critics.
I thought that Return to Neverland was pretty good, even for a direct-to-video cartoon film. I think they spent a lot of time trying to make it good. Hell, there's LIGHTING. And fluid animation. And the story was a decent jumping-off point from the first. Why not?
7. Favourite animated movie.
I CAN'T PICK JUST ONE.
Beauty and the Beast, Akira, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Cats Don't Dance, the Prince of Egypt...
8. Favourite Disney Villain.
Close tie between Captain Hook and Jafar. Naturally.
9. Favourite movie musical.
Mary Poppins.
10. Favourite movies of all-time (up to five).
I HATE THIS PICKING. But uh.
Cats Don't Dance: Oh man. I always loved the speed and fluidity of the animation in this. And all the little gags and quick facial shifts the characters had. I love things relating to old-school Hollywood, and this was clever and cute. Fabulous song selection, AMAZING singer for Darla and, of course, Natalie Cole. Selected scene: Danny's arrival in Hollywood
The Prince of Egypt: I promise these won't all be animated, but I'm a nerd for animation. I really like the way the Dreamworks artists sculpt these really defined chins and noses to their male characters. Ramses had a marvelous design and profile. I loved the music, and the effects, when I first saw them in the theatre, I cried. Because it was mind-blowing. The plagues on that scale were great; sometimes I forget it really happened. Selected scene: 'Through Heaven's Eyes'
The Princess Bride: Something my father shared with me since I was little, and I still love it. Humorous and charming, with really memorable quotes that pretty much everyone knows, whether they realize it or not. I always loved Inigo Montoya. And his line. Selected scene: "Mawwage"
The Scent of a Woman: God. Love this movie. Another one Daddy got me into. Al Pachino playing a blind colonel, grabbing a prep school boy to take him on one last spin around the city. You should rent it. Hell, buy it. Selected scene: The blind man tangoes
A Fish Called Wanda: Funniest movie I ever saw. Amazing story and cast. Great jokes. Just..On and on. Fabulous. Kevin Kline is marvelous. Selected scene: Montage of Kevin Kline's moments. WATCH THIS OH GOD.
Amadeus: Lastly, Amadeus. Because this movie moved me the instant I put it in. Salieri's actor, Abraham, is AMAZING. Undeniably amazing at conveying the wrath and emotion of the rival composer to Motzart. Just. Fjgsodfjds you have to see the movie to really understand how wonderful it was. Selected scene: Salieri speaks of his plot to kill Motzart; it gives me chills every single time'
Also, here's the movies that weren't guessed in that other movie meme I did:
3. Mary Poppins
6. A Fish Called Wanda
9. Curse of the Jade Scorpion
12. Awakenings
13. The Scent of a Woman
Okay. Because there just isn't enough time to babble on about my favorite movies, I'll link some assorted clips to films I love. Watch and enjoy, tell me what you think if you watch a couple.
The Curse of the Jade Scorpion, trailer
Awakenings, trailer Omg ;_;
The Producers, Mostel and Wilder. Blue blanket. Rofl
Mary Poppins: Step in Time :D
Cool Hand Luke; mourning
Shawshank Redemption; institutionalized
Harvey, starring Jimmy Stuart *_*
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles starring Steve Martin and John Candy
History of the World Part I; the French Revolution XD
